Future Driving Experience

As we anticipate autonomous cars in the future, we need to help users overcome uncertainty and doubt by rethinking the relationship between the user and the car. We conceptualized an automotive experience that allows people to build trust in their cars.

Challenge
Through our user studies, we found a lack of "empathy" between drivers and cars, and the need for a natural interface which would understand drivers' intentions and support them like a human co-pilot.

User Scenario & Rapid Prototype
I visualized our concept by creating a story board and quickly tested ideas using the "Wizard-of-Oz prototype" method.

Build, Test, Learn, Repeat
Working closely with engineers, I built functional prototypes to test on users and gather feedback and finalized the concept by iterating this through Build-Test-Learn cycles.

Empathic AI Companion
The system detects the driver's emotion and intent through facial expressions, eye tracking, voice, and context. The AI companion empathizes with the driver and expresses its "emotion" through visuals, audio, and haptics.

Natural Interface
Multi-modal HMI allows the driver to control various features of the car through a combination of eye gaze and swiping a tactile slider. ​

Air Travel App

Designed novel interaction for mobile app which provides a personalized, proactive experience for air travelers. ​

Challenge

As we tried out existing air travel apps, we found menus are hidden under the "hamburger icons," which make it hard to discover/access features when going through airport while carrying luggage.

We also explored design opportunity areas by creating a user journey map for current air travel.

Contextual Interface

We came up with a concept of contextual, proactive, sliding cards-based interface. I designed the UI through sketching, wireframing, and finally creating high-fidelity screen mockups.

Brush up

While collaborating with other designers, engineers and researchers, we created a visual style guide, built a working prototype, and conducted user tests to finalize the app design.
